Roy Bolton is a fine art specialist, historian and gallerist. Educated in Ireland, California and the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, he holds a master’s degree in Building History from the latter. He worked for over a decade in London’s big auction houses, running an Old Master Paintings department at Christie’s for much of that time. In 2007 he co-founded the commercial gallery Sphinx Fine Art Ltd. in London. His published books on art include A Brief History of Painting 2,000 BC – AD 2,000 and his judgements on contemporary art were aired over 25 episodes of the BBC2 series Show Me the Monet. As a building historian Roy advises on the culturally sensitive restoration of historic buildings.
